*I’ll be uploading my Instagram posts from our time in NICU, followed by a more recent picture of Rex, so you’ll be able to see the difference and keep-up with our journey*

“Aside from my time with Rex, in NICU; my life revolves around these machines, and expressing every 3 hours. It’s so full-on! I guess it’s helping to prepare me for when he’s home Whether it’s in NICU – next to his incubator or in the expressing room, or at home; there are a few things that make it less of a chore for me. And as a type 1 diabetic, there’s plenty I’ve learnt about navigating my blood sugars, carb intake, and insulin ratios. However, my milk keeps increasing, so things are constantly changing (such fun
), so I’m basically on a learning curve every day
Comfort is key: my seating set-up, clothing, and underwear (or lack of), all help me feel as relaxed as I can when my boobs are at the mercy of a machine that’s using its power to drain them (dramatic, I know) Snacks + hydration – these are crucial! I’m so hungry and thirsty all the time now. My body needs to top-up what I’m putting out, and I also need to avoid hypos. So I’m making the most of tea and biscuits, sweets, toast, chocolate, lattes, cake….anything that would normally concern me because of carb counting/insulin ratios. It’s by far the best bit about feeling like human cattle, and I’ll be sad when it ends to be honest!
🥛 Muslins, or a flannel/towel – I mean, it’s a leaky process…
Phone – I’ve mastered the suction now so I have a free hand to do these updates, message people, or to scroll through the thousands of photos of Rex we’ve taken ♥️ Blood glucose monitor – I test before and after to see if I’m likely to need more carbs, which I often do
I’ve said it before, but doing something practical, really does help me through each day. However, the every 3 hours thing can still be overwhelming at times…mainly during the night. These are the times I think about Rex the most, and it’s more than enough to keep me going ♥️
