#BRUMBLOGMAS Day 02: Christmas Pudding

When I saw the prompt for day two of Brum Blogmas; I immediately thought about the Christmas cards I illustrated in 2014. I was working as a freelance illustrator for a while, and I got to do some exciting projects with Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and some lovely commissions for gifts and special occasions.

I couldn’t eat this pud

When I started to suffer with my health during 2015; my illustrating sort of fizzled out a bit. It’s difficult to draw when you’re feeling ill all the time, but I’ve been back in my sketchbook for a while now, and am hoping to get back into the swing next year. I’m a fineliner addict and enjoy a sharpened pencil (we all have our things).

My first set of Christmas cards was so exciting for me. I loved sourcing my recycled card and visiting the printers to discuss the process. This Christmas Pud was a lot of people’s favourite out of the five illustrations I did. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to pop him out there again, and remember one of my favourite Christmases in recent years (we got Cosy that year too).

The best puddings have freckles

I love Christmas so much, so I wanted my first proper project to be festive AF. I sold most of them through markets and online, but have a box left for myself to keep (and send out last minute to people I wasn’t expecting to hear from). I illustrate under the name full fat fay (I had a thing for milk cartons), and this post is making me want to design, photograph, and sell a new range of cards. It’s a bit late now, but maybe next year.

The rest of the gang x

I’m really hoping to spot some Christmas pudding recipes within Brum Blogmas now; if you find/have any, please leave me links! I won’t lie; I’m probs not going to attempt to make one, but I love recipe pictures, and images of food in general. And again, there’s always next year! My mom is doing her gluten free Christmas cake again this year, which we’ll be eating well into January, it’s so good with a cup of tea or a Baileys; depending on how your day has been. I’m sure you’ll see it on my Instagram at some point this month. Perhaps I’ll put her recipe up?

  1. Oh I love your Christmas Pudding, she’s adorable! I tried to make a pudding once, it smelt so terrible with the suet I couldn’t bring myself to even try it haha! Glad you’re finding your creative juices rising again xx
